Theory Test Guide

How the LGV and PCV theory test works

Professional drivers working towards a lorry (LGV) or bus and coach (PCV) licence sit a longer exam than car drivers. The multiple-choice part contains 100 questions, you have 115 minutes to complete it, and the pass mark is 85. A separate hazard perception test must also be passed before you can book the practical stages.

Modules written for vocational drivers

The 15 modules here reflect the vocational syllabus: drivers' hours and rest periods, braking systems, vehicle weights and dimensions, restricted view, carrying passengers and more. Many questions deal with situations unique to large vehicles — tachograph rules, air brake faults, load security and passenger safety — that never appear on a car paper.

With 1,096 questions in the bank, the most effective approach is to master one module at a time, review every explanation, and retry your wrong answers before moving on. When your scores hold steady, use the mock test to build the stamina a 100-question paper demands.
